Mental Health Counseling
Telehealth Therapy in New York State.
In-person in Manhasset, Long Island
Welcome. I'm glad you're here.
Reaching out for support takes real strength. If you’re feeling stuck, disconnected, or weighed down by anxiety, perfectionism, or the pressure to hold everything together, it’s okay. You’re not alone, and you don’t have to carry it all by yourself.
Whether you're navigating parenting stress, relationship struggles, or feeling like something just isn't quite right, therapy offers a space to pause, reflect, and reconnect with yourself. Together, we’ll explore what’s getting in the way and work toward changes that feel meaningful and lasting.
I’ve been a practicing psychotherapist since 2005. My work is rooted in psychodynamic therapy, with deep training from Fordham University and the Training Institute for Mental Health, where I also teach and supervise. I offer both in-person sessions in Manhasset, NY, and virtual sessions for clients across New York.
If you're ready to begin this process, I’d be honored to walk alongside you.
Reach out anytime at 917-696-3352 or by email (nicola.burg@gmail.com) to schedule a consultation.
About Nicola
Reaching out for support is a brave and meaningful step.
If you're feeling lost, disconnected, or unsure of your place in the world - or if connecting with others feels especially hard right now - know that you’re not alone.
Many people feel this way at different points in life, and help is here when you’re ready.
Here’s what I can help with.
Individual Therapy and Areas of Focus
I provide warm, collaborative individual therapy for teens and adults. Whether you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or just unsure of what’s next, we’ll work together to better understand what you’re facing.
Areas of Focus Include:
Depression and Anxiety
If you’re carrying the weight of sadness, worry, or self-doubt, you’re not alone. Together, we’ll explore what’s behind those feelings and work toward relief, using tools and perspectives that support your emotional well-being in daily life.Grief and Loss
Grief doesn’t follow a straight path. I offer a compassionate space to talk through your loss, honor what you’re feeling, and begin to navigate a new way forward, at your own pace.Stress Management
Stress shows up in all kinds of ways: physically, emotionally, and mentally. We’ll work together to understand your unique stress patterns and build everyday strategies to help you feel more balanced and in control.
Every person's journey is unique. In a comfortable, judgment-free space, we'll develop an approach that fits your specific needs and goals. Whether you're seeking support for depression, grief, parenting challenges, or personal growth, we'll work together to help you move forward.
Some questions you may have.
Do I need therapy? I’ve managed on my own so far.
Needing support isn't a sign of weakness; it's often a sign of self-awareness. Many people wait until things feel unmanageable before reaching out. You don't have to wait for a crisis to benefit from having someone in your corner.
What’s a session actually like?
We'll talk through what's current in your life, along with relevant history and patterns. Some people come with a specific issue to work through; others come because something feels off and they're not sure what yet. Both are valid starting points. Most clients meet weekly, though that can shift over time.
What are your rates, and do you take insurance?
Sessions are $225. We offer a Sliding Scale to a select number of patients with demonstrated financial need. I don't bill insurance directly: this lets us avoid the reporting requirements insurers place on your diagnosis and treatment details, which protects your privacy. Most clients with out-of-network benefits get reimbursed 65-85% of the fee directly from their insurer; I provide a superbill so you can submit a claim. A limited number of sliding-scale spots are available based on need.
Do you take insurance, and how does that work?
To determine if you have mental health coverage through your insurance carrier, the first thing you should do is call them. Check your coverage carefully and make sure you understand their answers. Some helpful issues you can raise with them:
Coverage details and cost per session
Number of covered sessions
Out-of-network benefits
Primary care physician approval requirements
Is what I say confidential?
Yes, with narrow legal exceptions: suspected abuse or neglect, or serious risk of harm to yourself or others. Outside of those, nothing leaves the room without your written permission.
How do I know if it’s the right time?
If you're going through a major transition, feeling stuck, or just want to understand yourself better, that's reason enough. You don't need a diagnosis or a crisis to start.
